A poem about the Birmingham church bombing
They didn’t see
The corpses, the four
Little girls, good girls,
In church,
Until they were dead.

Could anyone see
What was coming, the four
little corpses of little girls,
In church,
Silent and dead?

But, now we can see
What had been coming, the four
Little deaths of innocent girls
In the church,
Now dead.

A pity that they
Died
For their obedience…
But life isn’t fair,
And we don’t always understand why.

Otherwise we’ll see
Our loved ones, four
Coffins, boys and girls
Who can’t go to church
Because they’re dead.
