Jesus Bids Us Shine

Jesus bids us shine with a clear, pure light, Like a little candle burning in the night;

When I saw this Trinket I thought of Jesus Bids Us Shine, the first hymn I learned as a young child. This hymn for children is asking us to shine like a little candle burning in the night. It has stuck in my mind all these years and I try to keep my candle shining every day.

The world can be a dark place. People suffer from depression, loneliness, health issues, hunger, and many other problems.

It doesn't take a lot of energy to shine a little light into their darkness. As you walk down the street notice the people around you and spare a smile, or stop and chat for a few minutes. It won't cure anything but it lets them know they matter, we see them and they're not alone.

Make it a practice to do Random Acts of Kindness. Hold the door for that young mother struggling with her baby stroller or help the elderly person behind you at the check-out bag their groceries. Remember that everyone has their own struggles. Let your light shine.

Listen to a friend who seems down, don't interrupt just listen. Sometimes all a person needs is to be heard.

Visit someone in a senior's residence or hospital. You could make their day. Take along a book you think they may enjoy.

These are all small things that can make a big difference in someone's life.

You can also connect with people on social media like Facebook or right here on WdC. Write something nice on their wall, send a positive review of their work, or send birthday greetings. Be friendly, encouraging, and reach out to people.

Well, He sees and knows it if our light is dim;

There will be times when your candle flickers or goes dim. When this happens reconnect with your spiritual side. Pray, meditate, feel the warmth of God's presence in your heart. Ask for help if you need it. Nobody needs to feel alone.

He will ever help us, if we shine, You in your small corner, and I in mine.
