One of thousands of dark themed rhyming poems I've written as a reflection of my life.

Highway Miles

By Scott S. Batchelor

I will need your guidance for what's left my mortal coil,

until my time has come to join your slumber 'neath the soil.

I'll keep your ghost in pockets, worn close my broken heart,

Shadows, whispers Company, this way we cannot part.

Somehow you'll watch over me until my curtain falls.

Then I too shall feed the worms below old dirt lined walls.

Send me under moonlit trees until I've passed right through,

Salty tears evaporate become the morning dew.

Keep you in my heart so I remember words you said,

For I can't hear you anymore, you're long gone cold and dead.

Sitting in this chair alone at home I rot away,

haunted by each sunset as I burn a hole through day.

Losing any sanity I'd held on by old string,

Tell myself a thousand times I can do anything.

I've lost to time each breath I draw burning up my life,

Heartbeat moments bleeding sharp, a hunter's wicked knife.

Tear away this tired heart, replace moth eaten soul,

Give me highway miles tonight to patch this empty hole.
