A husband's surprise backfires.
[16 lines]

You Old Fool

The doctor looked her in the eye
and said
with all sincerity,
“Your husband’s clearly one tough guy
to suffer such asperity.

“It’s fine for you to go in now
and sit beside him for a bit.
But heed my words”—he raised one brow—
“Don’t upset him or stare at it.”

She eased toward the old man’s form
which lay so still under the drape.
Outside, lightning announced the storm.
Light strobed upon the risen shape.

He turned to her with playful eyes.
“You old fool,” she said with a smile.
“One blue pill would have made it rise,
But you thought four would last a while.”
