The pain of losing one so dear
My love, my soulmate
I remember everything
Your strong and loving embrace
Your hand on my face and in my hair
The look in your eyes as you told me you love me

I remember how tender your kisses were
The intimate closeness was a joy for us
You used to take my hand tightly in yours
And when we walked along the sea
We were in absolute harmony

My honesty has hurt you
It wasn't supposed to
I could never leave you and I couldn't ever lie
You were given to me by God's grace
But you didn't want to stay

How can I listen to the songs again
Where melodies brought us close
Pain in my soul is amplified by the sound
Beautiful words are turned to ashes
As darkness enters my soul

My heart once safe in cotton wool
Cruelly pushed out into the cold
Never to feel your heat again
Now my days are no longer hopeful
My last dreams are gone

I sink into despair like I have never known
Suffering alone I long to see your face
I long to feel your arms around me once again
But my life is now gone on a Scotland breeze
The thorns of wilted thistle shredding my heart until it dies
