Three tongue in cheek poems about religion and royalty
God?

I don’t believe in God.
Don’t think I ever did.
All I did was just pretend,
And do as I was bid.

So I sang that Jesus loves me,
And prayed my soul should not be lost,
But all the while I did those things,
I kept my fingers crossed.

Thank Who?

Thank God they’re safe! They all exclaimed,
It was a dreadful fright.
The house burned down right to the ground,
In the middle of the night.

And the children all are safe!
Thank watchful God for that.
No one even scorched, they say,
But the hired man and the cat.

He woke up in the bunkhouse,
To smell the acrid smoke,
And quick as thought ran to the house,
To rouse the slumb’ring folk.

‘Twas God‘s blessing that he wakened,
We thank the Lord for that.
But who’s shirt tail caught on fire,
When he tried to save the cat?

God is good and God is great,
They chant with glowing heart.
But, if that is so, I wonder,
Why He let that fire start.

RUMINATIONS ON ROYALTY

The King

God save our good gracious King,
‘Tis said he’s wondrous wise,
‘Way smarter than the Pope,
And all those other guys.

He wears a fancy uniform,
With gold medals ‘cross his chest,
Whate’er he did to win them,
No one has ever guessed.

He has a million dollars,
Kept under lock and key,
He spends them on his girlfriends,
But not on you and me.

He looks a little wobbly,
For he is growing old,
His crown sits heavy on his head,
‘Cause it’s made of solid gold.

The Prince of Wales is waiting,
To occupy the throne,
The King should watch behind him,
And not go out alone.
