A poem about reaching a certain point in your life and looking backward and forward.
Cold Water Runs Deep

Remember when cold water used to run deep.
Good advice used to be cheap.
A promise, you wanted to keep.
Good friends were all you’d need.

Remember when you had money, as long as a song.
A sure bet, you couldn’t go wrong.
All the bells were ringing ding dong.
You were strong, strong as king Kong.

Remember when your hair hadn’t turned gray.
People weren’t pushing you out of the way.
You opened your own wallet to play.
And when you spoke, you had the last say.

Today, it seems everyone’s pimping and jiving.
Everything is for sale if you’re buying.
No one has cars, so who’s driving?
And why is no one asking or whying?

They all seem so happy to take it.
No one takes the risk that they’ll break it.
They pull and they tug and they snake it.
They are all so afraid that they’ll wake it.

So, remember when cold water runs deep.
Now that the concrete has formed on your feet.
No sense whining and trying to weep.
This is the appointment we’re destined to keep.
