Nursery Tale

“I don’t believe it. No one will believe that. You’re telling a lie.” Joey laid back down in bed.

“Really, I did see it. It’s true. The cow did jump over the moon. Then the dog laughed. Then the big blue dish ran away with the big spoon. You know, the big spoon mom uses to mix brownies.” Max’s eyes were big as the moon shining through the curtains as he told his tale to Joey.

“Try telling that to mom and dad. They’ll never believe you. They’ll say it was the ice cream and Doritos and candy talking. You had a bad dream. Go back to sleep, Max.” Joey rolled over and pulled the blanket over his head.

“I saw the cow jumping, Joey. I really did.” Max looked out the window again.

“Stop. Shut up.” Joey put his pillow over his head.

‘See - there it goes again.’ Max whispered as the cow jumped over the yellow moon. The blue dish chased the cow while the big spoon chased the dish and the black dog in the back yard howled while a cat played a fiddle.
