She was my classmate but...
‘Hello’, said I and she turned around
glanced at me and she went about

‘Do we know each other?’
her eyes seemed to ask

But I left it at that,
What if she takes me to task?

My classmate she was, in fourth class
her tiffin I had stolen, it wasn’t my fault

She’d get delicious cookies, crackers and all
A poor labourer’s son, I’d carry potato and gruel.
