The Three Horsemen

The Three Horsemen of the Apocalypse rode in on the west wind one July day. I glanced out my window to see them in the garden, did a double-take.

“Honey, come see…..”

“What?”

“Ummm…Just come see,” I said as I slowly walked outside, scared I would startle the horses and riders.

“Hey, what are you doing here?”

The red horse rider spoke. “Did you not ask the Hardware Girl for help with your problem?”

“Oh, yes, well, you see, there are these….”

“She summoned us to help.” They all said in unison.

The rider on the black horse spoke next. “I am here to make your garden unpalatable to the invaders. I represent famine.”

“I ride the pale horse and represent pestilence and death. This seems to qualify.” The pale horse pawed the ground. “Death to the pestilence.”

Husband now stood beside me. “I thought there were four horsemen.”

“The first horseman is busy elsewhere. Something about a virus. We were summoned to deal with your dilemma. I am here to wage war on your problem.” The rider on the red horse reigned in his horse to behave.

“Well, now, there is a plague of grasshoppers in the garden. They stole in one day. Hiding in the grass, it seems, until they became so numerous we couldn’t contain them all. And I won’t poison them. So now they are eating all we grow.”

“As we were informed by the Hardware Girl,” said the three horsemen in unison. They waved their capes over the garden. “Your treasure is now restored.” They just as suddenly disappeared.

“Well. Huh. That worked a lot better than that insecticide you were considering.” My husband returned to the kitchen.

Yes indeed, and totally organic,

The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse:
The first horseman rides a white horse, which scholars sometimes interpret to symbolize Christ; the second horseman rides a red horse and symbolizes war and bloodshed; the third rides a black horse and symbolizes famine, and the fourth horseman rides a pale horse and represents pestilence and death.
