A holiday tradition, a lot of work but worth every bite.
Christmas Cookies

One of the best days of the year,
a time to play and make holiday cheer.
Baking sheets, cookie cutters, frosting, sprinkles,
I usually find powdered sugar in my wrinkles.

First thing is pick out holiday music,
Must be up beat, rocking, to keep me cruising.
The Christmas tree and ornaments are my muse.
Each made or given remind me of a cookie they’d choose.

Momma Dorothy’s Rum Balls come first,
Pop’s Myer’s Rum give them quite a burst.
Grandma’s Magic Cookies are yummy and quick.
Must be why they are such a hit with St. Nick.

Sugar cookies, most fun to cut and decorate.
Rainbow frosting become angels, snowmen and their mates.
Thumbprints were my Mom’s favorite, I recall.
A chocolate drop, nut or cherry, a special taste for all.

Clean up won’t be bad if you can stay in the spirit.
The smell is heavenly, they look so exquisite.
Time to relax and feel great at what you have done.
Now, look at cabinets, counters and floor. Wasn’t this FUN?
