A visit to his childhood house
As I slowly turned around the corner, the building came into view, a huge structure in absolute shambles.
Ajit,my 10 year old son, was blissfully asleep as I used to be at his age whenever I went out on drives with dad in these lush green surroundings.
“Wake up Ajit we are here”
Rubbing his eyes Ajit stared in disbelief as we passed through the broken gate and into the long winding driveway leading up to the entrance.
“That is a huge house dad” Ajit exclaimed “Who used to stay here” his voice trailed as he craned his neck out of the car to get a better look.
As I stared at the huge wooden front door, the massive entrance of our ancestral home, images of the past came back flashing in front of my eyes.

“We will have to leave son, there is nothing we can do”
“Father, this is our house, why should we run away from here”
The light from the flame of the mob of villagers walking towards the mansion was becoming more and more bright with each moment . They glanced at the fatal sounds of cries of hatred emanating from the crowd. A crowd instigated against the people of our family for standing up to the atrocities of the local politicians.
“Do you want to know a secret son? “ I stared at the face of my grandfather who seemed unusually calm in contrast to my agitated father “House is where family is son, if we keep them safe” Grandfather had glanced at the minivan in which our family was huddled in., “ we can create ten such mansions”

“We used to live here” I replied to Ajit who was out of the car running into the house, just as I used to as a kid.
