Poem in honor of black history month.
I am white. You are black.
Our histories go way way back.
My ancestors owned a lot of slaves.
They came to America across the ocean waves.
You were considered property to them.
Thanks to you, we have some great hymns.
Some were treated well and others not so much.
With our roots, we seem to be so out of touch.
With preconceptions on both sides,
We still fight each other with our prides.
I have to admit, you have come a long way.
You are treated more respectfully than back in the day.
Without you, where would society be?
We are all important and must remain free.
There were many contributions by you to modern day living;
A Traffic light, ironing board, uses for peanuts, and engineering.
Thanks for work in mathematics, science, and medicine too.
It is amazing just how much you can do!
We should all work together with a lot of respect.
We need to love one another and reconnect.
