I have to go, he then said. Oh no, not yet.
The hour’s late, I’m afraid. But we’re all set!
I don’t have time. But we’ll be fine!
Sorry, goodbye.

The next time I saw his face, he looked away.
His cheek revealed that a tear had gone astray.
I turned his head, and then I said:
My dear don’t cry.

The chance’s not lost, I told him. What do you mean?
There’s more to say between us. So it would seem.
We could still try. We could still try.
And so we did.
