Woke with three poems dancing. 4-9-2021

Playground

I woke to words dancing--
spinning and leaping
on the playground of my mind.
Phrases playing let's pretend
on monkey-bar castles
while images swung to the sky
on wordplay swings.

I woke to a game of tag--
an exclamation point was it!
Packs of letters were scrambling about
followed by brief pauses and clauses
questioning: who would catch whom?
Scraped knee full stops
bled emotions and schoolbell alarm

made it all come to a freeze-play stop.
But it was too late for sleep and
fingers itched to grab pencil.
Must capture elusive moments
before sleep-fogged mind lost
the moments to wistful dreams
leaving the poem to skitter away.
