Cooking contest falls apart
Twelve of us practicing strawberry crumble,
Twelve of us, who wake up with a mumble,
Muttering, is the contest today?
Gosh, I wish it would go away.
Two of us shopping for butter and oats,
One picking strawberries out of the garden,
One already preheating the oven,
Only to realize her berries have mold.
Two days is too short a time to grow mold!
Back to the store; buy more, buy more!
Jessie’s crumble is runny - needs cornstarch,
Not honey!
She was being creative(insert expletive).
Jack doesn’t like oats and his topping is slimy-
Can’t leave something out with no substitute, blimey!
And meanwhile following a simple shortcut,
An easy mix, can’t get it wrong,
I think of the 12 of us I might prevail
Just by getting the thing in on time, done well.
But it just doesn’t look like it meets expectations-
Perhaps whipped cream, ice cream, rainbow sprinkles?
Off to the store as my thoughts percolate…
When I get to the contest I’m two minutes late.
