The house always wins
Impermanence

Light dances 'neath the swaying trees,
filtered through their rustling leaves,
figment of a passing breeze.

Days flicker through the lives of men,
strobed images that flash and then
wink out as if they'd never been.

We swim against the flowing stream,
grasping at our fleeting dreams,
shadows in the full moon's gleam.

Colors bloom and then decay,
empires nourish birds of prey,
mountains rise and wash away.

Stars outgas a final flame,
reality falls out of frame,
lost in an entropic game.
