a mother's discussion with her tomboy daughter in the summertime
"Don't run in and out,
I'm not cooling outside,"
my mother would yell
throughout my young life.

"Get out of the house!
No TV today!
Get off your butt,
go out and play!"

"You're covered in mud!
What were you doing?
Go wash with the hose.
Go on! Get moving!"

"And don't come in my house
with that mud on your feet!
I just cleaned the floors.
Let's keep it neat!"
