a summertime memory of riding my favorite horse bareback
Perched atop my old white moke
on an oppressively sultry day
with no saddle, blanket, or yoke
or the like to make him obey.

We meander slowly through the shade
I let him graze as we proceed
I doze due to his gentle sway
my trusty old white steed.

Welcome surprise soon ends my musing
as cold water splashes my skin
the old hack found sprinklers diffusing
and decided to linger within.

So I'm sitting atop this old white horse
and more soaked we both become
we leave the sprinklers in due course
and wander back into the sun.
