Don't get greedy on Halloween!

The Pumpkin Moved

All-Hallows eve, a time to scare,
don masks and dress up cute.
And, as for me, I plan to score
a plus-size bag of loot!

I bravely search out every house
that might serve up a sweet.
I even try that spooky place
beyond the dead-end street.

Warped shutters creak as gusting wind
blows chill against my neck,
but Jack O’lantern candle gleam
still draws me up the step.

The peeling paint and rotting rail,
the porch swing gone to seed,
might well deter a lesser child,
but not my chocolate greed.

The pumpkin moved as I began
to shout out ‘Trick or Treat’.
Those magic words died on my lips,
cut short by jagged teeth.
