A bit of deception from an artist.
The Blank Canvas
Lines: 15

This canvas is blank, and so is my brain
On my palette Burnt Sienna and Purple Ochre
I add a dollop of Radiant Blue

My mind is gone; I disguise that twist
I am an artist of some distinction
I don’t recall, but it must be true

They are observing; I draw some squiggles
Is it a weed? A road? The Isle of Mann?
“What does it look like to you?”

“We can’t tell yet. Please continue.”
I draw another squiggle, then an Ochre doodle
Am I on a roll? I haven’t a clue.

They “ooh” and they “aah”; a round of applause
They purchase the canvas and insist that I sign
I scribble a squiggle and bid them adieu
