Can a budding relationship survive a mishap?
Location: British colony, Le Mar’s Iowa prairie 1886

Edith: “The sky is so full of stars. You must love living on this frontier. Can you see the rabbit in the moon?”
Jack: “Rabbit? No … wait … yes! I can see it.”
Edith: “I heard at a party once that the Chinese see a rabbit. I looked, saw it, and now I see it every time. Interesting, don’t you think?”
Jack: “You’re shivering. Why didn’t you say something?”
Edith: “I was enjoying our walk. I had no idea the temperature would plummet tonight. The hotel’s thermometer showed 65 degrees this afternoon.”
Jack: “Here, put this on.”
Edith: “Thank you. My brother writes gushing letters to Mother and Father full of the wonders of this prairie colony. That’s why they let me come with Lord and Lady Thornton.”
Jack: “We could make an even better one it weren’t for the American rabble.”
Edith: “It’s our colony. Why can’t you simply make them leave?”
Jack: “It’s their country.”
Edith: “Your hat!”
Jack: “Come, we must hurry back to town. A thunder storm is coming.
Edith: “I can’t see where the tracks are, can you?”
Jack: “There’s thick prairie grass on both sides; it’ll keep us on the trail.”
Edith: “I felt a rain drop.”
Jack: “Can you run?”
Edith: “No. I’m about to twist an ankle as it is.”

Location: Le Mars hotel lobby
Edith: “What a horrible place. Look at me. I’m a soggy mess.”
Jack: “I think you are a beautiful soggy mess.”
Edith: “I bid you good night, sir.”
Jack: “May I escort you to St. George’s in the morning?”
Edith: “I think not!”
Edith turns at the top of stairs.
Edith: “Jack. Yes. Meet me in the hotel lobby.”
