George should have kept his mouth shut.
Cold as Ice
WC 208

My fiancé, Dawn, always sees the good in people; I don’t. This drives me nuts.

Case in point: Dawn has a friend, Monica. They have been friends since grade school and are still close. She is a fixture at our house. I guess that would be okay if the woman was warm and friendly, but she is cold as ice.

“You don’t understand what Monica has been through in her life, George!”

“I don’t care.”

“Talk about cold.”

I was patient for a long time, but after three years of the dark atmosphere the woman brings into the house, I’ve had it.

You don’t have to defend her. It won’t do any good. You’re just wasting your breath,” I said to her from across the dinner table.

I’m pretty sure that now that I have spoken my mind, finally, Dawn will reevaluate her relationship with Monica.

I wait.

“You know, George, two of the things I loved about you were your warmth and patience. But now I realize you aren’t either of those things.”

My mouth fell open when she slipped off the ring and slid it across the table.

“I can’t marry someone cold as ice.”

And with that, it was over.

Me and my big mouth!
