When it's darkest, follow your stars
Adrift

Specs of light just set adrift,
a canvas long and black;
it feels shorter, as we sift,
through things that we now lack

Like trips to a savannah missed,
to dragon's realms, we'd play;
a glimpse of a nirvana kissed,
and relished to this day

Costume shops, with moves not made,
and nights lost in such doubt;
disguises shed as daylight fades,
with chances thinning out

through memories of sunlit days,
beneath a canvas white;
of cotton, let me count the ways,
such threads of time alight

Untangled from the things we choose,
detached from things declined;
set adrift, unshackled, loose,
unbound from threads of time;

Time frames running fast and slow,
concurrent and apart;
out of sync, such time it flows,
the horse before the cart

Remembered in a different way,
a tapestry rewove;
with faces, places stitched to stay,
in spaces where we rove

Out of sequence, lost somehow,
the times we thought would last;
six feet high and rising now,
it stacks too quick...too fast

A surface rising, bottled up,
weaving, to-and-fro;
sometimes when things bubble up,
you have to let them go

Hard to lose, to rearrange,
the times of which we span;
accept the things you cannot change,
...embrace the things you can

Spaces held, reserved for free,
such faces spent, we prize;
places we daren't dream we'd be,
alas, time's arrow flies

Running fast and losing track,
a canvas scored with scars;
as solar systems fade to black,
... I hope you found your stars
