Concerning divine revelation.
He thought he heard God speak to him
as he spewed out the contents of his stomach
(half a bottle of vodka, among other things)
into a bowl of tepid filth and water.
Even in his inebriation he rightly supposed
that others would question this transcendent turn of events.

Later he spoke with a doubt-chiseled priest.
β€œI think God gets his kicks from talking to drunks.”
The priest, who knew something concerning soteriology
and something else entirely concerning salvation:
β€œIt saves Him the usual trouble that comes with revelation,
which is that people take Him far too seriously.”
