the Animal Parliament Decides

One day
The animals of the world
Woke up
Following the demands
Of Gaia the Earth's Goddess

Who had decreed
That humanity was destroying
The planet

They convened a parliament
Of animals to determine
What to do about the human race
Who was rapidly leading the world
To the extinction of all life forms

Leaving the world a barren desert
Like Mars, they had fled
Millions of years ago

Not having
learned their lesson

the birds led the conference
the owl chaired it
the eagles, hawks, and ravens
served as the jurors.

A merle of blackbirds
Spoke for the prosecution

A glaring of cats spoke for the defense
Cats liked their strange human friends
They were joined by a coterie of dogs
Who defended their human friends

They took liked
the human creatures
As did the band of horses

The herd of cows
did not like the humans
Who ate their brothers and sisters

An ambush of Tigers
did the closing argument
For the prosecution.

The animal congress voted 400 to three
That human would have to be exterminated
To save the world all humans must die.

And so it was decreed
The next day every animal on the planet
Rose in rebellion killing humans everywhere
Screaming “death to all humans”

The cats and dogs tried to warn them
But since humans did not speak
Or read cat or dog,
no one got the memo in time

And operation
“Death to all Humans”
Was a great success.

In the end,
a thousand humans
Were allowed to live

Displayed in a zoo
For the amusement
Of the other animals.
