What exactly is education? Information? Indoctrination? It is knowledge? It is freedom.

Ki and Education

The Art of Thought

The concept of education is a challenge. It should not be a platform for the
furthering of our own unrealized desires, nor an attempt to create
little clones to perpetuate our own little misguided contemplations,
and yet, sadly, both are realities.

The legitimate objective of education is to offer what we have learned
in our own lives and give the student the opportunity to find their own way,
which unfortunately includes the possibilities of failure and disappointment.

It is Margaret Meade who is credited with what I believe
to be the fundamental intent of education, that being

“Children must be taught how to think, not what to think”

which is something of a conundrum since the presupposition is that
those who possess this obligation have the responsibility and ability
to not only comprehend the differences but to implement them.
A challenge indeed.

At some point we all have to accept responsibility for our own
thoughts and actions, even though the argument can be made
that we were never in control to begin with. The true beginning
of reason and truth begins when we come to this conclusion.

If we fool ourselves into some manufactured fantasy we are indeed fools,
and can only achieve wisdom when we understand exactly who and what we are.
Knowledge is the two-sided sword that defines us
and creates our acceptance or denial of reality.

ideas

as we battle on the field of ideas,
there can be no outcome but victory.

when we lose we learn,
and when we win, we teach

education

education is not a book but the words held within
words have meaning, they are powerful, they will change your life
they are the greatest of tools, and the most formidable of weapons
the words we speak, and the words our children hear
it is only you that can decide how they are used

education is not an exam but an examination
of the world and the life that surrounds us all
a journey of discovery to experience all of the wonders
the reality of the whys, the what is and the how could that be?
to the contemplation of the what ifs and what could be, the what should be

education is not about the teachers but about the teachings
what is necessary to become that which we were meant to be
happy in heart, comfortable in mind, peaceful in soul
always questing, always searching, always listening, always learning
never forgetting that others are following a similar path

education will never be just about knowledge but about understanding and wisdom
the ability to contemplate an infinite universe and a finite lifetime
to discern the meanings of right and wrong and love and hate
and create a philosophy that allows us all to live together
with integrity, compassion, empathy, character and honor

ignorance

there is much to learn from ignorance

children

we become what we experience
the children are for the future
we are but from the past
the present is the legacy
teach them well and allow them to grow
there is no tomorrow there may be no second chances

it is your mission to make their world one of discovery and wonder
and not one of isolation and secrecy and fear
their future is in your hands and in their minds
the call of the child is profound
do not accept your task lightly

show them a world where they can play a part
where joy is a fundamental
where happiness is a reality
help them find a world where they can find peace

be careful, they are fragile
do not break them
the future is in your hands, choose well
or we will all be sorry, and pay the price

learning

the great conversation is learning
as we speak we teach
as we listen we learn
let your soul speak, as your mind listens

thirst

you can lead a man to the font of knowledge
but it is not possible to make him drink
it is always the individual that must thirst
in order for him to begin to think

lies

it does not matter how often you repeat a lie
it will never become a truth

~ ki ~

flame

the best teacher does not tell the child what to learn
they simply fill them with the desire to learn
they spark the flame
and then stand back and watch the fire burn

offer

ignorance
is the greatest teacher life has to offer

thoughtless

if you see that everyone thinks the same
it is only because no one is thinking at all

the haters

as you hate the haters
do you not realize
that you have become
the very thing
that you despise?

logic

logic will help you to discover
how to find things you understand
imagination will show you
things that you never knew existed

perception

truth is
perception is not

often

the impossible is possible
it is often just a matter of time

deep

you cannot legislate peace
a vote will not make it a reality
it can only happen when a decision is made
deep within the recesses of your very soul
to reject the concepts of hatred and fear
that exist beside us all

key

there are an infinite number of answers
to an unlimited number of questions
the key is to ask an honest question
and receive your answer
with a mind open to possibilities

power

a true warrior can die and yet he will never lose
a power of a single word can bring an army to its knees
the influence of a single thought can change the course of history
the abililty to think gives one the capacity to live
