My poetry professor challenged us to write a poem entitled "Watching Television."
He knew he needed it
after they tell him, "you canned"
after she give him his bill
after the wind blow his books away.

He rise to the occasion
and he ask, "what be there to do?"
His vein will not open
and the light always un-green.

He open the window
after the furnace blow his fever
and his baby girl lie in a box
and the water flow brown with her ashes.

After he hear all the world at six
and night fall in some suicide jump
and morning break like his mind,
He turn to Sesame Street.

He watch a dirty muppet sing
He watch a rhino wallow
He learn to count in Spain
He recite his ABC with a yellow bird.

He knew he needed it.
