Of the spy case of Ethel and Julius Rosenberg, who were both executed on June 19, 1953.
“I have read a fiery gospel
writ in burnish`d rows of steel,
’As ye deal with my contemners,
So with you my grace shall deal;’ ”

         ~ The Battle Hymn of the Republic

Through Green-colored Glass
America’s enemies are fried,
cold-war commies
served sizzling to a frenzied public
fed on fear of wild pinko Russians,
liberals enmeshed in treason,
worse than

(whisper) murder;

spies trading kisses, songs, atomic secrets...

The treachery of they who dared to love
amidst betrayal of our ‘cause of freedom’
begged condemnation

and got it good.
