Your skin was fire sheets of ice melted away. Passion uncovered burst into conflagration and in the ashes, we slept. Written for "Promptly Poetry Challenge (2025-2026)" Week # 5 This week's prompt is a poetry form: TANKA Tanka is a classic form of Japanese poetry related to haiku. It consists of five unrhymed lines of five, seven, five, seven, and seven syllables. (5, 7, 5, 7, 7) Your poem may be on any topic or subject, but it must follow the form. Note: I have chosen to count “fire” as having two syllables. Shakespeare counted it as two when it fit his meter, as in the witches chant in Macbeth. It is a matter of meter and pronunciation. Support for syllable counts can be found in different sources on the net. |
