HOV Lane
I drive to work each morning, 41 miles one way, then back...on the same two~lane country road. I Love it. No big cities, no real traffic. It is wonderful.

This two ~ lane road has recently gone in for a face ~ lift. It used to be quite narrow, with no shoulder whatsoever to speak of. A year ago, it was widened, repaved, and in a few different spots, a very long middle (lane?) that is for turning only. I am not sure what you would call this, exactly. I don't really think of it as a turning lane (apparently others don't either, as you will soon discover), as places to turn into are few and far between. I find it kind of strange, but it's whatever! I respect it for what it is.

While this has made the drive so much safer, and smoother, it never fails, that while driving to work in the wee hours of the morning, there will always be someone driving a big truck, like a dually (I don't know
why it is always a big truck, but again...it's whatever), that after their first energy drink of the morn...morphs into the main character in everyone else's story.

You all know what I am talking about! That one person who must act
entitled, as though they are the only one that matters, and everyone else holds no significance whatsoever. They are going to have their way, and there is nothing you can do to stop them.

Unfortunately, in the following scenario, you cannot even get out of this character's way.

Mr. or Mrs. truck person, has decided that this middle lane used for turning into nowhere, was created with the sole purpose of becoming their own personal HOV lane! Because...
why not?!

When this happens, naturally they are flying down it to try to cut in front of cars that are following the speed limit, maybe even going a bit over.

What happens is....loose gravel...and there always seems to be a lot of it...shoots into the windshields of the vehicles being passed.

Now, I can tell you for a fact, that this causes damage, as I received two lovely chips in my windshield during one of those escapades. You don't know someone is doing that until they are right next to you, then flying by, and all you can do is...
CRINGE...while expecting the worst!

Main Character Syndrome...Gotta Love it!
