Perusing Authors and Portfolios
There are many wonderful authors here on Writing.Com. The quickest way to find one is to visit our Authors listing page, which is linked in the left navigation menu. Here you will find a listing of the thousands of authors writing here at Writing.Com.

Sorting the Authors
We realize how many authors there are from which to choose, so we've given you a few sorting options so that you can search the way you wish.

The Writing.Com's Top Author Lists linked at the top of the page are:

*Bullet* Most Community Recognition: The first author listed has the most community recognition. (See: "Community Recognition). This is a sort of the Authors page.
*Bullet* Most Referrals: The first author listed has referred the most members (see: "Referred Member Tracking). This is a sort of the Authors page.
*Bullet* Most Credited Reviewers: The first author listed has received the most credits from other members of the community through the public review page. (see "Reviewing Credits) This page with a list of 100 is also linked at the top of the Reviewers page.
*Bullet* Most Active Reviewers: The first author listed has given the most reviews. This page with a list of 250 is also linked at the top of the Reviewers page.
*Bullet* Most Active Raters: The first author listed has given the most ratings. This page with a list of 250 is also linked at the top of the Reviewers page.

Other options available from the drop down sort menu are:

*Bullet* Most Recent Change First/Last: The first (or last) author listed has changed his or her portfolio in some way most recently. The Most Recent Change First is the default sort.
*Bullet* Most Referrals First: The first author listed has referred the most members (see: "Referred Member Tracking).
*Bullet* Most Items First/Last: The first (or last) author listed has the most items in his or her portfolio.

*Bullet* Newest 1st Item First/Last: The first (or last) author listed has most recently created his or her first item regardless of account creation time.
*Bullet* Handle/PenName A to Z / Z to A: The authors are placed in alphabetical (or reverse) order by handle.
*Bullet* Username A to Z / Z to A: The authors are placed in alphabetical (or reverse) order by username.
*Bullet* Most Viewed First/Last: The first (or last) author listed has the most Portfolio tab views.
*Bullet* Highest Level First: The first author listed has the highest membership level on Writing.Com. (see: "Portfolio Icons).
*Bullet* Completely Random: The authors are chosen by the system and displayed randomly.
*Bullet* Highest CR First: The first author listed has the most community recognition. (See: "Community Recognition).

You can further limit the search results by using the Display only authors with a Paid Membership option.

Find Someone Specific
If you're looking for someone specific, you can put their handle or username into the search box located above the author listing. This will bring you all possible choices that contain that wording. You may then select from the list of search results.

Additional methods of location for authors or members you have had interactions with include authors or members you have added to your Favorites/Fans list or to your email contacts list. You can use a userlink of an author or member anywhere it appears on the site to go to that portfolio, to add them to your Favorites/Fans, or to send them an email. If you know an author or member's username, you can create such a userlink for them in your Scratchpad page of your Notepad, for example (see: WritingML Help for user).

Note: These additional methods are the only available methods to locate the portfolio of a member whose portfolio is empty.

Understanding Portfolio Icons
Each Registered Member receives an empty online portfolio as soon as they sign up for an account. The initial portfolio icon for new accounts is gray, indicating that the portfolio is empty. In order for the member to be included on Writing.Com's Authors listing, the member must create at least one item in their portfolio. The portfolio icon will then automatically change to black, and the member becomes a Registered Author. If the author is promoted, the color of the portfolio icon will change to yellow, blue, purple or red, depending on the level of promotion. For complete information on the portfolio icons, see "Portfolio Icons.
