Wanna know what a frog has to blog about? Read on! |
Write about one of your fondest memories. I think one of my fondest memories is when I made the lady I used to care for laugh so hard she nearly fell out of her hospital bed. Carlene was in her late 80's and had a sarcastic, dry sense of humor. People often thought she was mean, rude, or hateful because of how she said things...but if you really KNEW her, you could tell she was teasing...and just trying to get a reaction out of you. Oh boy, did she love to get people riled up! Anyway, she was in the nursing home recovering from a broken hip and I could tell she was kinda down. SO, in the course of our conversation, I told her I was thinking of getting my hair cut and maybe I'd get it colored. Carline always loved going to salons and having her hair permed and done...so this was something of interest to her. Kinda sarcastically she said she thought pink would be a good color. I carried on the conversation and finally, it was time to go home. That evening, I went and got pink, purple, and teal spray in hair color. I warned her husband, John, what I was gonna do. He also was in his very late 80's and I didn't want to shock him too much, since I lived with him. The next day, before we went to visit his wife in the nursing home, I sprayed the majority of my hair bright, neon pink and added a wide purple streak and a smaller teal streak. Then, for good measure, I pulled one of the sides back and added a bright orange hibiscus-type flower hair clip. The entire ride over, John kept giving me weird side glances but he never said anything. He entered his wife's room first and they greeted and then I walked in...and the look on that poor lady's face was priceless!! For the first time, she was plum speechless. I greeted her as usual, acting like nothing was at all weird or different. Then, all of a sudden she cracked up...I mean, I've never heard her laugh so hard in the whole time I've known her. She laughed so hard, nurses came to see if she was OK...and she kept pointing to me saying "look what she did!" Every time someone walked in the door, she HAD to point out my hair. To be fair, it was a SMALL Texas town and people only ever saw odd colored hair on TV...not in person! Her reaction was so priceless...I ended up spray painting my hair for that entire week!! Finally, she stopped getting such a kick out of it and I went back to my normal hair color. I don't think I'll ever forget being able to make Carlene speachless and laugh so much. I offered to do HER hair, but I can't repeat what that sweet southern lady said in response...I'd have to change the rating of my blog if I did! } ![]() |
