Terror Approaches: The Scream, 1893 by Edvard Munch He stands on the bridge, his hands holding his face, eyes wide-- terrified by what-- he screams. Behind him two people walk: either toward or away from him. Water flows under the bridge, and the are distant boats sailing. The red-orange sky indicates its either sunset or dawn: it doesn't matter which because his eyes and fear are focused on the terror that is approaching him. Maybe he is looking into the Twentieth Century and the destruction of two World Wars. Poet's Note: ▶︎ |
