About the Author
The son of a navy engineer and a professional gambler, Jack Tyler joined the service to dodge the draft, sailed a wooden ship in a navy made of steel, and cruised the Orient on the deck of a tanker all before his twenty-first birthday. A lifelong writer, he first made his mark in the field of light steampunk with his stories of life beyond the rails. Unlike most contemporary steampunk, Beyond the Rails is very much about the close-knit crew of the Kestrel rather than the technology itself.
Jack’s guiding principle in life, “Never fight a battle you don’t have to win,” was provided by a Klingon admiral in a game based on a work of fiction, thus proving his belief that wisdom is available wherever you care to look for it; even, perhaps in his stories.
