Crossbow And Libations
(PPC6 Prompt11)
If one comes near my patch
Where peat is mounded over
Frost bitten vines
There in the dawn light morning mist
Will appear a pumpkin or two, orange globes
Defying winter’s cruel design
Sneaking libations to sturdy their resolve
Who gives my pumpkins whiskey and cola
To stiffen their resolve to live on?
I would say I don’t know
Though I suspect my deadly Crossbow
A fierce feline, smokey blue, murderous cat!
“Crossbow. Did you get my pumpkins drunk last night?”
She eyes me. Purple shimmering globes
Wide eyed penetrating glare goring me
Human. She arches her back defying
My insolent interrogation
And inside the dissipating Fog, wet molecules of whiskey and cola,
A thick blanket of inebriant to make even the most
Dissipated rodent impervious to winter’s curse
Lie the bodies of three hapless moles
Decapitated by a wicked paw
A ruthless paw
