Meeting Thee

It's Friday evening, time to celebrate the week, despite a severe case of lumbago, and looking forward to the weekend. I will finish a story with a twist later tonight.

I have made an appointment with one of my pastors in church for a talk and to get acquainted. I also signed up tonight for an Introductory Alpha course with meals for later in October and December. It's important to learn about the church, faith, and the bible. I am such a newbie!

On Wednesday, there was a service I attended in church, but before that I joined the church group of women praying the rosary for Lady Mary! My brother gave me the rosary with a manual that comes along with it. I tried, but never passed the first cross (Our Father in Heaven) and the first bead (Holy Mary). But attending with those women was very revealing. I almost could join the whole service, repeating and getting the hang of it. It was awesome.

I have a recurrent coffee morning on Tuesdays followed by preparing sandwiches for the homeless. And I got a lift to the meeting point where we served 70 homeless people with food. I was the one distributing cutlery and serviettes. Only for half an hour, but I could tell they enjoyed their meals and the attention.

I also got more acquainted with the other, Indonesian pastor. We talked a little. I am especially fond of him because we share a common country. He is Indonesian; I am Indo-European, where my late mother was born on Sumatra.

So, now I have made contact with the deacon, the two pastors, and lots of men and women, and kids of the church. I feel blessed already. They are so sweet!

The official meeting about the future of our church was very revealing as well. The head secretary of the bishop explained the procedure and we could talk, ask questions, and give our concerns about closing the church in the near future and putting it out of service at some point.

So, a busy week! It took me a lot of time walking to and fro from church to my home because of my inability to walk straight. I sometimes had to walk one hour ahead with a cane to pass 10 minutes under normal circumstances. Hopefully, with physiotherapy, painkillers, an infrared lamp to warm the muscles, and the guidance of the Lord, it will get better eventually. It's a humbling experience to walk around with pain and a severe handicap. I never take my body for granted again! Oh, hallelujah...I stopped smoking Sunday night. It's been 5 whole days now.
