|Writers flooded out
2008, June 17
As writers some of us are very connected to our environs: family, nature, friends, you know ... reality, the type that bites or not. Others of us live in a world of dreams and fantasy.
Every summer both types of writers gather in Iowa for workshops, as the University of Iowa is renown for its #1 writing program in the U.S. [Iowa state is #2, Harvard #3]. Weekly and weekend sessions reach out to thousands of young adults to old geezers like me.
Not this week. Sessions have been canceled due to the flooding. If one could even get there as Amtrak has canceled routes as well. No word on bus ...
Reality bites, and even the Fantasy Writers didn't predict this one. Too mundane? Perhaps. But in the real world, we live by real rules.
After floods turns black to blue
and fish swim back in channels,
remember that once you knew
how to sandbag fiction too.
