Hats off to Ascot
Hats off to Ascot
2008, June 19

I believe our dearest Scarlett (Scarlett ) visited Ascot last year. Was it with her sister or Pam? I don't remember, but it reminds me of the color pink. *Laugh*

Each year, the female guests dress up like peacocks, the men tucked in tux like pecked peahens. The hats are renowned as the main attraction. The poor horses just go round and round 3 bends. Some races are only 5 furlongs, but at least one is 2 miles, 2 furlongs! Makes the Belmont look like a race for wusses.

Ascot has two seasons, flats and jumps. I believe for the Royal Ascot they all are flats ... I could be wrong.

The hats and other photos:

Some of the photos in the link above are less than grand, but I like the butterflies! and the orange whatever-that-is ... The Queen, bless her beating heart, wore a subdued white outfit and then wore purple, which flatters her whitening hair ... she should wear purple more often .. with a red hat. *Smirk* She looks more like her beloved mom every day.

Hats off to Ascot!

Butterflies and crimson feathers,
flowers, fruit and spiral 'things',
the Queen in purple,
Scarlett in pink,
Hats off to Ascot!
when the horses race
furlong after furlong over the flat,
trying not to laugh or blink.

What do you think of the hats of Ascot? How about horse racing in general? Is this a British thing beyond the ken of Americans?

peace out,

Kåre
