Get Started With Your Account

New here? Let’s get you started.
Follow these steps to set up your account and begin sharing your writing.

1) Set Up Your Profile
Personalize your BioBlock & Biography
Your BioBlock and Biography introduce you to the Writing.Com community and set the tone for your portfolio.

BioBlock
Go to Portfolio / Portfolio in the left column.
Click the gear icon in the upper right.
Enter your BioBlock information.
Click Submit to save.

Biography
Click Portfolio / Biography in the left column.
Click the gear icon in the upper right.
Add the information you’d like to share.
Click Submit to save.

Change Your Handle
Your Handle is the name that appears next to your portfolio icon. Unlike your username, you can change your handle whenever you’d like.

Go to My Account / Change Handle.
Enter your new handle.
Click Submit to save.

2) Explore Your Portfolio
Learn how your portfolio works
Your portfolio is your home base on Writing.Com. It’s where you create, edit, organize your work, and manage your account tools. (For full details, see: Overview of Your Portfolio.)

How Do I Access My Portfolio?
Click Portfolio / Portfolio in the left column.
Use the tabs at the top to explore your tools and content.
Click Portfolio in the left column to access additional areas.

3) Create your first item
To add your writing to your portfolio, you’ll need to create an Item.
Click Create Something in the left navigation to open our creation page. From there, choose the item type that best fits what you’d like to publish. (For more about item types, see: Item Types and Their Uses.)

How Do I Create Something?
Click +Create Something in the left column.
Choose the item type that fits your writing.
Fill in the details on the creation page.
Click Save when you’re finished.
To find your item later, go to Portfolio / Portfolio.

4) Say hello & connect
New here? Don’t be shy — we’re glad you’re here.
Introduce yourself and start connecting with other members. (Read: New Members -- Our Newbies.)

How Do I Introduce Myself?
Head to Newsfeed on the left and make a post to say hello!
Also, visit "Noticing Newbies"  and "Writing.Com General Discussion"  to introduce yourself.
Explore other message forums and join the conversations on Newsfeed.
