Trapped

The lights of the city dimmed
as the heavy rain descended upon it
turning it into a gray haze.

Running...

She'd been good at resisting
from the first moment she saw him
avoiding the touch, the look.


On an empty street she stopped
tired of it all
thinking she's safe from him.


Leaning on an old building
she closed her eyes
turning her face up to the sky.


A hand grabbed her shoulder
yanked her out of her peace
pulling her toward a strange face.


Heart racing, ears ringing
she pushed against it
with all her might.


His lips forced themselves on her
not waiting for approval
as she struggled against him.


Like a bird in a cage,
trapped in his embrace,
with a mind, unclear.


One last kiss, last breath,
the power within her gave her strength
to set herself free.


Into the darkness she fled
not daring to look back
as her heart tightened in her chest.
