Childhood Memories
Thursday, May 17, 2018

“Don't you wish you could take a single childhood memory and blow it up into a bubble and live inside it forever?”
Sarah Addison Allen, Lost Lake

The "Blogging Circle of Friends prompt for Day 2008
Write a blog entry, short story or poem using this words. Merry, marry, cabbage, petunia and fireworks.

Childhood Memories

Joyful echoes burst across my mind
like fireworks in the midnight sky
on the Fourth of July,
when I remember my childhood.

Merry laughter reverberates
when I remember
the first time I tasted
Grandma's corned beef and cabbage,
and I wonder why
mine never tastes as good as her's.

Another thing Grandma could do,
which I can't,
is grow petunias.

Grandma never said much
about the day Grandpa
ask her to marry him;
perhaps it was because
I never asked--
The gold bracelet,
that Grandpa gave her,
went to my brother
and his third wife
