The Memory I Treasure Most
The Memory I Treasure Most

The memory I treasure most
is one of my Grandpa Newland
He was the only Grandfather that was alive
while I was growing up.

My earliest memory of Grandpa
was seeing him framed
in the door of a refrigerator.

I was very young,
somewhere between 3 and 5,
we went to my cousin's house,
they lived in the country
and we lived in town.

The adults were playing cards
and we children were playing games;
one of the games we were playing
was hide-and-seek.

There was an old refrigerator setting
on my cousins' back porch,
and I thought it would be a good place to hide,
so I got in and curled up.

I waited form my cousins to find me,
but it was my Grandpa
that found me,
and pulled me out of the refrigerator.

The next time we went to visit,
the refrigerator was still there,
but the door had been removed.
