Do we have a soul or a brain?

"Okay. If we have a soul, then when did the first soul come about?"
Lucinda queried as the sleek space ship orbited the Earth.
Tomas sighed, "How long is this question?"
Tomas and Lucinda were from the future and had returned to 2020 to prevent WWIII.
"Well, all life evolved from simple life forms into more complex life.
There must have been a point when human ancestors didn't have souls..
Does a blade of grass have a soul?" Lucinda tapped on her computer screen.
Tomas rubbed the back of his neck, "I don't know."

The ship was in position.
"Hmm." Lucinda made adjustments in the array.
"Initiating." Tomas pressed the ignition button.
In a flash, the ship and Tomas and Lucinda vanished.
All the weapons of mass-destruction were erased, along with any memory of history.
The human population had returned to nomadic tribes.
They would have a second chance.
