Sigils And Signs
Sigils And Signs
This stranger,
she took hold of my hand,
stared into my eyes
and I could feel her probing,
searching for... what?
I don’t know whether it was
she found what she was looking for
or that she didn’t.
I guess it doesn’t matter;
not really,
for she’d made up her mind
at some point in time
inside my head.
This woman,
this stranger,
she sat me down
and held my hand palm facing up,
then with a tiny brush,
some kind of dye,
she set to work painting
sigils and signs
on my hand and my wrist.
She muttered words
in some strange tongue,
as she worked
slowly and deliberately
until she was satisfied
with her handiwork.
With not one word exchanged between us,
she climbs to her feet,
and walks away,
leaving me with the hand of a magician.
