Sweetbriar: Country Bumpkin

Country bumpkin
loved girl next door
with daisies in her hair,
'til draft called him
away to war
and grief beyond compare.

She placed a rose
upon his chest
lying in casket there.
In uniform
with Silver Star,
he looked so debonair.
