Here Be Treasure
Here Be Treasure

There's a fracas;
a raucous ruckus
and it grabs my attention,
grips my eye.
At the base of a tree
a crowd of crows
have gathered
and are clearly
What has got their
feathers aflutter?
I really, really
want to know
so move in close
with stealthy step.
I need not have bothered
with the creeping approach
for they look at me
and show no signs
of anxiety.
They are intent on their treasures,
their finds,
and their excitement
is one so catching
that I've simply got to lean on in
and take a peek
for myself.
Where the hell have they found it,
this varied hoard?
A miniature lantern
and a tiny crown;
a leaf from an oak tree,
a moon-shaped pebble;
a single white feather,
a bracelet of beads,
and a snake.
Let's not forget the snake!
I don't know much about them
but its red color
shouts out danger.
I pull back,
a bit too hard and fast
and my sudden movement
startles them into taking flight
taking their treasure
with them.
