The best way I know of to count my blessings is to keep a daily journal recording the best thing about each day. I thought it might be nice if we had a community journal here at WDC where anyone could enter the "best thing" about their day. Believe me, whenever you're blue, or lonely, or not feeling well, it is wonderful to go back and read the journal entries. One day it might be something material and the next spiritual - whatever strikes your fancy. So please, be my guest and join me in a wonderful journalling experience. | The best thing(s) about today is: First Friday - One hour of devotion in Church. A most wonderful and comforting time. Marketing - we always make a day out of it since we have to travel so far. Free popcorn at the store today. Lunch was BBQ and it was terrific. It came - we ordered an organizer for the sock drawer and it arrived today - it's a really handy item. Thunder and lightning - it was very hot today and the storms this evening should cool things off. Plus, it's really cool to watch if you're safe and dry. Grape ice pops - Yum! Any day Bob and I spend together is a good one. A really good phone conversation with a friend. Tomatoes and more tomatoes - they are ripening fast now. |
| The best thing(s) about today is: Air conditioning, air conditioning, air conditioning! Our home - it really is comfortable and it's a great place to be. Jewelry - a friend had a jewelry party this evening - and of course I bought something - earrings. The sky - so very, very blue today. A juicy, ripe mango - Yum |
| The best thing(s) about today is: August - another beautiful summer month August - we're going on vacation this month August - tomatoes and corn are in season Sleeping late this morning Peaches - I had one today that was just delicious. Dinner out - at the Water's Edge at Lake Lorraine Neighbors - Evelyn brought me fresh string beans and Barbara brought me zucchini. I baked - for our church bingo - vanilla cake with vanilla raspberry frosting and a cheesecake topped with fresh fruit. . |
| The best thing(s) about today is: A beautiful day - hot and sunny but with a wonderful breeze, My fingernails are all in good shape at the same time - amazing!!! The junk drawer in the kitchen - I cleaned it! The blueberries are almost ready to be picked - Yum! A wonderful night out on the porch complete with fireflies. |
| The best thing(s) about today is: A day trip with the Garden Club - to see the beautiful Cutler Gardens in Binghamton and then out to lunch. there were fifteen of us and we had a really nice time. A really long and lovely telephone conversation with my daughter, Susan. Sweet cherries - which we bought yesterday - these are definitely the best of the season! I ate so many I had a cup of tea for dinner! Sitting on the front porch and watching the sparrows - it seems there are many baby ones in the area and they are so cute. They don't really walk - they kind of pop up and down as though they are thrilled about something. I am very proud of myself - sort of, My son received a letter from an old girlfriend and when I spoke to him on the phone he said to open it and so I did and then he changed his mind and asked me not to read it. Now an open letter about which one is very curious is pretty tempting but I didn't read it. I guess I have to substract a few points though because I really do want to read it. I have been faithfully exercising every day!!!!! |
| The best thing(s) about today is: Church - Mass was beautiful and before it ended the sun came out and streamed through the stained glass windows. Lots of young children there too. Supermarketing - we travelled about an hour to go to a particularly nice market that has a lot of gourmet items. Tomatoes and basil from the garden, fresh mozzarella - add a little olive oil and sea salt and you're in foodie heaven. Yum A surprise visit from a friend . We sat on the porch and had a nice talk and caught up with each other's happenings. Trying on all the clothes that I will be taking on vacation. Getting ready for a trip is half the fun. Today when I was thirsty I had an ice cold low-fat chocolate milk - it was really good. Oh yes, a new baby in church this morning - beautiful. |
| The best thing(s) about today is: Waking up to sunshine when rain was predicted. Finishing the crystal; I've been washing it bit by bit and today I finished. Basil - It's a bumper crop - spent this morning packing some into ice cube trays and freezing it for winter. Firemen's Field Days in our village and this evening we had dinner there and bought some raffle tickets. Fun to see everyone too. Sitting on the porch with Bob tonight. What a beautiful night and and so quiet and peaceful. Sweet, sweet watermelon. Yum |
| The best thing(s) about today is: I'm healthy!!!! Mycheck-ups are over and I am in good health- no cancer, good blood pressure, lungs "perfect" - hooray!!!! A beautiful red enamel and white gold ring from Bob to mark the occasion. A really sincere hug from my oncologist A very bad storm this evening - bad but beautiful. Dark skies and mist on the mountains - perfect for a horror story. Lightning that lit up the sky many times and thunder that shook the house. Big rain drops that bounched off the tables out on the deck a good 2" in the air. After the storm - we had fireworks!!! This weekend is summer celebration in our little village and the fireworks display was tonight. Beautiful. About 1/2 pound of raisinettes and 2 ice pops!!! |
| The best thing(s) about today is: The libarary - I worked there again for 2-1/2 hours. Cheese - creamy white stilton with apples and pears - my friend Barabra and I sat on the porch and ate it with nectarines and bread sticks. Yum! A nice visit with a neighbor I hadn't seen in a while. Twice today somebody stopped while I was on the porch and commented how nice it looks. A visit with Ruth - Ruth lives up the block and will be 96 years old next week. She took a walk today, all dressed up, hair done and make-up on. We chatted for a while and she is as sharp as a tack and as lovely as anyone can be. Pansies - Ours are much bigger than usual this year and the white ones are especially pretty. |
The best thing(s) about today is: Two beautiful ripe tomatoes in my garden. Working in the libarary - today I worked a full day. It was really nice and when I got home I wasn't even tired. Magazines - working in the libarary, I've been reading quite a few of them. A good book is a wonderful thing but a good magazine is just as rewarding in its own right. A really lovely family with young children visiting the libarary (from out of town) and really appreciating all everything there is to offer Bob - he brought me lunch on a red and white checkered tray and sat with me while I ate. A long chat with a good friend this evening. |

We went to New Jersey today; Bob had a good check-up and then we went shopping; Tiffany's - just window shopping (but I did pick out a watch for $5,600.)  Lemon Verbena shower gel, body spray and sachets. Yum A cookbook - "500 Appetizers" Knowing that Bob would get me everything in Tiffany's if he could. | The best thing(s) about today is: ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** If I did this right you should be able to see the pie I baked for Bob and that will be the very best thing because I have been trying to do pictures for months now. If it's wrong, will somebody please tell me why. A very quiet Sunday - we decided to have a "vacation" right here at home. I took a long nap, we sat out in the garden for a while, took a little wallk. Later we went for a short drive and then for ice cream. I had a root beer float. Pizza for supper and a nice chat on the porch. Enduro 2007 - That's motor-cross racing and they come from all over the world. It was held in our tiny little town this weekend. Fun, fun, fun and lots of handsome Italians and Frenchmen. Our beautiful house and grounds - we just walked around today, enjoying all of it. |

| The best thing(s) about today is: A beautifully cool morning - perfect for rollng over and going back to sleep, so I did. The library - I worked for four hours this afternoon - it was good to see everyone and to feel useful. A really big rabbit on the lawn this evening - he gave Bob and I a start untill we figured out what it was. A really wonderful phone call from my daughters - in a giddy mood and we all laughed for a long time over just silly stuff. Oh, I picked our first tomato of the season today. | The best thing(s) about today is: A rainy summer day - there's something relaxing about it The roses from Bob are opening now and they are truly beautiful My nails really are getting stronger Remember yesterday when Bob bought me the raisinettes? Well they tasted just as good today. Spending the evening on the porch, chatting and rocking I actually drank the "required" 8 glasses of water today! (I think that's a first) A baby rabbit with a tiny white cottontail, scampering across my nieighbor's lawn. |

Flowers - Bob bought me beautiful white roses The sky this evening- although it was cloudy it was still beautiful - it looked sort of marbled with the blue and then the white clouds sort of swirling around Pasta for dinner and, A raspberry ice pop - yum A very pretty yellow butterfly on the porch railing this morning |
| The best thinhg(s) about today is: Today is my sister Pat's and my brother-in-law Joe's birthday!! Lunch on the deck with Bob and ice pops for dessert An early quit (we both did yard work today) and a nice rest on the porch with a magazine - Southern Living My friend Barbara came over this evening and we just sat outside and had a really nice talk. She brought me lettuce from her garden. A really ripe, really juicy peach. Yum Good news - John, our next door neighbor has been ill this summer and today he was out working in the yard and is much better. A beautiful blue sky today - not a cloud in sight. |
| The best thing(s) about today is: Mass - It was beautiful this morning and there were so many visitors in church - such a nice thing to see! We have a brand new hotel in town and they have a restautrant so we went there for breakfast after Mass; french toast with local maple syrup and sausages - delicious. The coffee was very good too - considering I drink decaf. A long Sunday drive - all the way along the Cayuga Wine Trail which winds around the Cayuga lake. Really, really beautiful. There are about a dozen wineries and you can of course go to a tasting but some of them also serve lunch in the vineyards. Along the way we stopped at Buttermilk Falls, they are really beautiful - not so wide but a huge drop. Then, we saw a huge, make that HUGE, bird's nest on top of a power line , peeking out the top were two bald eagles!!!! Magnificent - Probably a once in a lifetime sighting. The nest was about two to three feet across. Knowing that Bob and I are "best friends". |
