A writer never stops learning, no matter how 'seasoned' or 'experienced' they might be. Like everyone else, I strive to improve on a daily basis and as I research around the web or read through textbooks, helpful pointers are noted down and will be shared with everyone.

My hope is that they can be of use to you as they have been for me.

You can also use that list as taboo words to avoid. If the photo accompanies the story than those words and secondary images may already be part of what the reader 'knows'.

What was that 'ball' like before (or after) it was a ball... or what are its 'thoughts' at the moment! Is it lonely? The five senses... what season is this... where? Maybe it's Cherry Blossom time in Osaka and it's eager to be picked up and played with (what else to balls exist for?)... maybe this season...

Glad to have found your article. It's a very creative way of looking at an image ( outside the box!) It's an " oldie" but a goodie!
I first started writing years ago using prompts. It was very helpful. These days I avoid them because for a while ( during time's of writers block) They seemed to put extra pressure on me to come up with something specific.
After reading this it helped me to see it could also be inspiration! 😁 Thanks for the tips and another perspective.

I've never heard anyone say "conserves" for Jam- ever, but definitely "compote" or "preserves"?

In the section of frequently mispronounced words, you list:

probably "probly"

I have another one, of which I am personally guilty. It is elimination the "b" altogether, and saying "prolly" instead of "probably".

Okay, which one is better or make sense here? Lie or Lye.

She lye's down to rest. Is that correct?

She lies to her Mother?

Well, there both trickey but the reason is because we had a English Graduate write a group email explaining the difference but I ended up confussed. Lye is it to lie?

Proofreading is absolutely important. Matter of fact my English Teacher would loudly say Proofread everything. I say.

Do not use for indirect quotation was the biggest tip for me.
There are story's I've tried to come up with and want to use quatation marks. But not using them while indirect statements works for me.
