In a world where gods, undead, and elves have politics and shifting alliances, war brews.

"It will have blood, they say; blood will have blood.”
– William Shakespeare, Macbeth III.iv.121

While all feedback is appreciated, please note that reviewing this page does not help the author improve the novel or his writing nearly as much as reviews of the stories themselves. If you are interested in sending a review, please review one of the entries below. Thanks!

Welcome to another world, where modern technology coexists with medieval thinking, where the dead have their own government, and where things are changing. Quickly.

Byron is gone, banished to another world for 505 years. But his legacy remains: on the run from the Xyroni Council, rulers of this world of demons, werewolves, and ghosts, he made many allies. And now, a new hero has risen to take his place: a vampire whose past is just as troubled and whose motives are even more questionable; one of the most powerful vampires there is: Alavainan Palor.

These exciting tales explore his path to creating a new underworld order - one of justice and equality, where discrimination is ended and the lowest are valued. It's a long and dangerous road, paved with politics-rotted brick and guarded by centuries of tradition. Alavainan will stand with Byron's loyal followers and new allies against the powers that be. Which society will triumph?

Author's Notes:

This is a collection of short stories. Each entry is a separate story that takes place in the same world and involves the same characters. But there is a larger story to be told, and each story reveals a little more truth. Read them all to understand everything! Remember, though, that the stories are independent of one another. Don't expect Entry Four to pick up where Entry Three left off.

AN IMPORTANT NOTE TO ALL READERS:

This collection is being written out-of-order because of its complexity. Entries related to the central plot will be finished more quickly than the more peripheral stories - "The City Asunder," which is expected to be a long story with a complex sub-plot, is a prime example: while it is vital to character and world development, it will do little to advance the main conflict. As such, it will likely be finished late. Because so much of this novel has taken shape on WdC, I will continue to use the site to organize and store the stories despite their in-completion. The entry titles include notes about that story's level of development. There are a few different tags that may be seen here:

*BULLET*"Story Title (In Progress)" - An "In Progress" tag indicates that that entry is currently being written.
*BULLET*"Story Title (On Hold)" - An entry that is "On Hold" is incomplete but not currently being expanded; it will be returned to at a later time.
*BULLET*"Story Title (In Planning)" - Occasionally, a story that is still "In Planning" may be posted. This story is not yet in the writing stage, but a brief segment may be available, or it could be a placeholder to keep everything in the right order.
*BULLET*"Story Title (Working Title)" - The "Working Title" tag simply indicates that the title of the entry will likely be changed to something better at a later date.
*BULLET*There are also stories in "pre-planning" which have not yet been written or added to the WdC collection.

Please refer to these tags before reading a story from this collection. Note that any story with no tag can be considered "finished." In addition to the tags in each title, below is a description of the collection's completion status. Furthermore, be aware that the order of the entries, especially the later ones, is subject to change.

Please note that later entries will likely contain information that is not intended to be revealed until late in the novel. The goal of making these available to readers is, of course, to get feedback - but, please, consider the damage that reading ahead could do to your perception of the novel as a whole. Imagine if you read chapter 12 of a book before reading anything else. Not only would it leave you a bit confused, but you would likely learn details that weren't meant to be revealed until
after chapters 1-11. The same is true here.

At this time, Entries 1 through 7 and 13 are complete. Entry 15 is in progress. Entries 5, 9, 11, 12 and 14 are incomplete but temporarily on hold. Entries 8, 10, 16, and 17 are in planning, and entries 18 through 23(?) are in pre-planning.

Special notes for returning readers:

Anyone who has read portions of this work before should be aware that it is a work in progress, and, therefore, plot details and the overall timeline may have changed since your last visit.

AGAIN, PLEASE NOTE THAT SENDING REVIEWS OF THIS PAGE DOES NOT HELP THE AUTHOR IMPROVE THE NOVEL OR HIS WRITING NEARLY AS MUCH AS COMMENTS ON THE STORIES THEMSELVES! IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN SENDING A REVIEW, PLEASE REVIEW ONE OF THE ENTRIES BELOW! THANKS!
